5 Must-Eat Food Pop-Ups & Drops This Week in NYC

It’s 11/11, close your eyes and make a wish….

Did you wish for a taco worth traveling across the country for, a female pizzaiola who’s making pineapple pizza cool, and a naked restaurateur shuffling truffles from the other side of the globe to your plate?

Then you’re in luck. This article is just a small taste of the pop-ups we’ve been hunting and you can find them all in the 🧨 Pop-Ups & Drops category on the 8it app. Hit the green button below each dish to access 8it and get all the deets. (Private Beta password: NYCDROP)

White Truffle Madness
Frank Prisinzano Restaurants // While Supplies Last

What’s the drop?
Frank Prisinzano is having such a great time in Italy, he thought he’d share it ALL with you. Not just his unadorned self, but also a bounty of peak-season white truffles from Piedmont, Italy that will be available on dishes like risotto and gnocchi at his restaurants Frank, Lil Frankie’s, Supper, and Daddies while supplies last. Some dishes, however, are only available at specific locations. If your truffles should blanket a voluptuously-crusted pizza, head to Lil Frankie’s or Daddies. If they should land on a luxurious veal tartare with Colatura di Alci, look no further than Frank or Supper. But for the intel-intel, we asked Frank himself what’s his favorite dish to shave white truffles over. “Crispy egg boss. Because eggs naturally taste like truffles and vice versa and also the contrast. The cheapest item paired with the most expensive.” Well said, Frank. A juxtaposition perhaps even more majestic than cooking pasta naked. Tap the gold star below to dig into some white gold.

What’s the drop?
A prize-winning pizzaiola is coming to a brewery near you. If you’ve ever been on one of Scott’s Pizza Tours, you might know Miriam Weiskind, whose pizza passion rose to the public eye after winning consecutive NYC Pizza Runs in 2010 and 2011. Her prize was tickets to the pizza tour and she soon became a tour guide. She led tours for eight years and the rolodex of pizza knowledge she gained can be seen on instagram and in her pies. On Wednesdays, she makes Sicilian pies at Evil Twin Brewing in Dumbo but this Saturday, it’ll be a variety of Neapolitan-ish pies at Talea Beer Co. Including The Yum Yum, Miriam’s take on Hawaiian pizza, with pickled jalapeño pineapple, salami, fresh mozzarella, and romano cheese that recently impressed Neapolitan pizzaiolo Daniele Uditi 🙀 of Pizzana on Best in Dough on Hulu. Tikkun BBQ Turkey Fest
Astoria // 11.12

What’s the drop?
Tikkun BBQ slangs the kind of saucy, juicy smoked meats that you wish were on your Thanksgiving table every year. Thankfully, you have a chance to celebrate with them a couple weeks early (sorry mom and dad). Tikkun is teaming up with heroes of indulgence Comfortland for Turkey Fest, where they’re making two turkey sandwiches that would smack your elementary school lunch lady right in the face. The Nashville Gobble will have smoked turkey dunked in hot SAWSE with slaw and pickles on a brioche bun. Thanksgiving in Paradise hoists smoked turkey with jalapeño cranberry SAWSE, stuffing and gravy on a buttery biscuit. Proceeds from the event will go to the Boys & Girls Club of Queens. Tap the turkey below for all the info.

What’s the drop?
Bon Appétit contributor chef DeVonn FrancisYardy World is like a vacation in a pop-up, showcasing Caribbean food, wine and spirits pairings, and curated playlists. Many tropical ingredients grace the five-course menu for the upcoming pop-up at Winona’s, which includes chips & dip with fungi, charred cabbage salad with chili crisp, peppa shrimp skewers, seeded duck a la plancha with carrot and hibiscus, and a corn funnel cake with halva, guava and toasted honey. Christina Chaey of Bon Appétit notes that Francis is changing the way people go out to eat, creating a collaborative communal experience. Tap the world below for all the info.

What’s the drop?
Many NYC pop-ups showcase and expand upon food from chefs’ cultures that they grew up with. Chefs Elizabeth Heitner and Nestor Silva’s Los Angeles-based Malli does this with multiple cultures, and they will be sharing their Jewish and Latin American-inspired food in NYC for two nights only at Rhodora Wine Bar next week. “I love learning about Nestor’s heritage when we discuss ideas for a dish, or vice versa. And I think that really resonates with people (whether or not they are Jewish/Mexican), which is why it works,” said Heitner. Their pastrami taco has generated so much buzz, including an entire article devoted to it in the LA Times, that it might be worth traveling across the country for. So if you can’t make it to their pop-up next week, nobody would blame you for hopping on a six-hour flight to get a taco. We cannot confirm nor deny that we have done that before. Tap the plane below for all the info.

UPDATE: Malli has announced a second pop-up at Bella Dea in the West Village on 11.19. Click here for all the info.

Not to rub it in, but here’s a pop-up you may have missed out on. To stay in the know on all the hottest drops in real-time, check out 8it’s Pop-Ups & Drops category in the app.

Wagyu Cheesesteak Eclair
La Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels

📸 @steve8it

Last Tuesday night, we were walking through SoHo and the Hangry Gods struck down on us when my friend Tom said “I just got hungry, what’s near here?”. Naturally, I whipped out the 8it app and excitedly hit the ‘Pop-Ups & Drops’ category to see if we’d strike gold on some Limited-Dishin’ eats nearby. Low and behold, we saw that we were less than 2 blocks away from the most glorious looking Wagyu Cheesesteak Eclair which was being served at La Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels, only that night for a special event. We lucked out and got seated right away. Within 15 minutes, this treasure of a sandwich graced our presence. The only way I can describe this decadent treat, is with one word: OPULENCE.
