Must-Eat Food Pop-Ups & Drops in NYC 3.2-3.9

Yesterday, “February 29th” appeared unexpectedly on our calendars, gifting all of us an extra day of the year. It's like the universe knows we need an extra day every four years to devour something truly magical. So, let's make this leap year count. That bonus day is an opportunity to dig into this week’s pop-ups and drops including some Pete Wells approved chalupas, Trinidadian “pork candy”, Malaysian curry noodle soup, a Taiwanese Bagel Breakfast, or a smoked barbecue oxtail feast.

As always, this article is just a small taste of the pop-ups and drops you can find in the 8it app. Hit the green button at the bottom of this article to explore the 8it app.

Puebla-style Chalupas
Corona // Fridays-Sundays

NYT food critic Pete Wells sounded the alarm and let us know that there’s a stand slinging must-eat Puebla-style chalupas under the 7 train in Corona on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Chalupas Poblanas El Tlecuile cooks eight tortillas in lard over charcoal, coats half of them in salsa verde and the other half in roja, then stacks each one with a ration of pork and voila. 🤤🌮🇲🇽🌶️🤤 Find all the info in the 💥 Pop-ups category on the 8it app.

Jase’s BBQ
Flatbush // 3.2 & 3.3

One of NYC’s top pitmasters is enjoying an extended run at Flatbush Central Caribbean Marketplace. A smorgasburg favorite and local legend, Jase Franklyn puts a Trinidadian spin on barbecue. His current menu includes jerk ribs, jerk wings, beef ribs and his signature dish, BBQ pigtails. “Pork candy” as it has come to be known pairs some of the tenderest meat from any part of the animal with a sweet, tangy tamarind barbecue sauce you can’t get anywhere else. The Laksa Shop
Park Slope // 3.3

The Laksa Shop is bringing its soothing but spicy bowls of perfect drinking food to Wild East Brewing Co. every other Sunday starting March 3. Laksa, a Malaysian curry noodle soup is characterized by thin noodles, spicy curry paste and fresh seafood. It’s topped with boiled eggs for that extra hit of protein, frizzled onions for a little crunch, and a bouquet of herbs to round out the aromatic ensemble with a bit of freshness. Mimi Cheng’s Taiwanese Bagel Breakfast
Williamsburg // 3.9

We love an odd couple, a collab a little off the wall that makes you question it, but at the same time get super intrigued - kinda like when 50 Cent and Chelsey Handler dated. Well, this the food version of that. Mimi Cheng’s and Fini Pizza are collabing for a Taiwanese bagel brunch featuring fan tuan, jammy tea eggs, scallion pancake flagels, specialty cocktails and a special collab bagel sandwich with soy scrambled eggs, cheddar, Mimi’s spicy secret sauce. Limited time only, just like the Handler and 50 Cent relationship. Find all the info in the 💥 Pop-ups category on the 8it app.

Smoked Spice BBQ
East Rockaway // 3.9

📸: @smokedspicebbq

Smoked Spice BBQ is kicking off their 2024 pop-up season with a banger at Long Beach Brewing Company next Sunday. Last year, their smoked barbecue oxtail broke the internet and sold out pre-orders within minutes. This time, pre-ordering is unavailable so get ready to pitch a tent and wait outside Long Beach Brewing Company until you smell the drippings of oxtail slowly rendering over smoky wood. Find all the info in the 💥 Pop-ups category on the 8it app.
